Presented by Anne Kloos, PT, PhD, NCS
Huntington’s Disease: Guideline-Based Decisions
Huntington's disease (HD) is a rare genetic disorder that causes progressive motor, cognitive, and behavioral impairments leading to increasing activity limitations and participation restrictions over time. Due to the rarity and complexity of the disease, physical therapists often feel unprepared to determine a plan of care for a client with HD. This course addresses this problem by presenting a framework for the evaluation and treatment of clients with HD based on current clinical practice guidelines. This framework includes a physical therapy evaluation decision tree for selection of outcome measures and a plan-of-care decision tree for the selection of treatment interventions. Potential barriers and facilitators of participation in physical therapy and physical activity will be discussed along with strategies to overcome the barriers and facilitate active lifestyles throughout the disease in the HD population. The course is targeted to therapists in inpatient, outpatient, skilled nursing, and home health settings.
Framework for Management of Clients With Neurodegenerative Diseases
Presented by Anne Kloos, PT, PhD, NCS
Framework for Management of Clients With Neurodegenerative Diseases
Neurodegenerative diseases result in complex issues impacting the health, function, and participation of affected individuals. Therapists must be equipped to provide best-evidence care throughout all stages of neurodegenerative diseases in an ever-changing healthcare environment. This course addresses this need by providing frameworks for rehabilitation of neurodegenerative diseases to help guide clinician decision-making regarding exercise and other treatments for clients with neurodegenerative diseases and by providing strategies to overcome barriers and facilitate sustainable exercise and physical activity in people with neurodegenerative diseases. In addition, this course addresses unique issues and challenges in caring for clients with neurodegenerative diseases as well as strategies to address those challenges. The course is targeted primarily at physical and occupational therapists in inpatient, outpatient, skilled nursing, and home settings.
Advanced Physical Therapy Examination of Clients with Huntington's Disease
Presented by Anne Kloos, PT, PhD, NCS
Advanced Physical Therapy Examination of Clients with Huntington's Disease
Huntington's disease is a genetic disorder resulting in complex issues impacting health, function, and participation. Therapists must be equipped to provide care in an ever-changing health care environment. This course provides the therapist with advanced knowledge in examination of the client across all stages of Huntington's disease. Information is presented using a case study example interwoven with evidence-based information. On completion of this course, the therapist will be able to use evidence-based tests and measures for the examination of clients with Huntington's across the full spectrum of the disease.

Decision-Making Framework for Neurodegenerative Disease Management and Exercise
Presented by Anne Kloos, PT, PhD, NCS
Decision-Making Framework for Neurodegenerative Disease Management and Exercise
Neurodegenerative diseases result in complex issues impacting the health, function and participation of affected individuals. Therapists must be equipped to provide best evidence care throughout all stages of neurodegenerative diseases in an ever-changing health care environment. This course provides the physical therapist advanced knowledge about the use of Dal Bello-Haas' framework for rehabilitation to guide therapists' decision-making regarding interventions and current evidence regarding benefits of exercise for people with neurodegenerative diseases. Issues and challenges to providing care to individuals with neurodegenerative diseases across all disease stages are discussed. On completion of this course, the therapist will be able to use Dal Bello-Haas' framework and current evidence-based recommendations about exercise prescription and physical therapy care to select appropriate treatments for individuals with neurodegenerative diseases across all disease stages.
