1. Diagnostic Workup: Pulling the Pieces Together

Consideration for management of head and neck cancer consists of reviewing the patient's diagnostic workup and staging. Recommended treatment is based upon NCCN guidelines. This chapter will introduce surgical and nonsurgical considerations for HNC.

2. The Impact of Surgical Management and Reconstruction of HNC Patients

Surgical options for HNC consider cosmesis and functional outcomes as well as long-term survival. Surgical approaches are discussed with a focus on the considerations of surgery vs. nonsurgical treatment, reconstruction options, and postoperative recovery. This chapter will briefly review treatment recommendations and decisions and the impact of surgical and related procedures.

3. Postsurgical Impact of Radiation and Chemotherapy

Postoperative management of HNC involves the multidisciplinary team meeting NCCN guidelines. Dysphagia postoperatively is evaluated and managed by the speech pathologist. The extent of surgery and reconstruction contribute to postoperative healing and recovery. This chapter will review the impact of head and neck surgery and indications for dysphagia in the HNC patient.

4. Dysphagia Treatment During and Post Treatment: Acute/Early Deficits, Long-Term Deficits
