Samantha McDaniel

PhD, CCC-SLP

Dr. Samantha McDaniel is a speech-language pathologist and researcher who works as an Assistant Professor and Graduate Program Director in Communication Sciences and Disorders at Georgia Southern University in Savannah, GA. She has clinical experience with patients ranging from neonates to centenarians and has a passion for clinical work and research in acquired neurogenic communication disorders. She earned her undergraduate degree from Calvin University and M.S. in speech-language pathology from Rush University. In 2021, after 16 years of clinical work, Dr. McDaniel's love for supervising and teaching graduate students led her to earn her Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences along with a graduate certificate in aging studies from Western Michigan University. Her current research agenda concerns the difference in cognitive screening outcomes between young and older adults; Dr. McDaniel aims to translate her research findings into improved practice standards across multiple disciplines.

This course provides an introduction to an evidence-based treatment program for improving writing, typing, and speaking. Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) can use the knowledge from this course to work with individuals with aphasia on personally relevant words to improve functional communication. Materials that correspond to this teaching are available on the MedBridge website. SLPs can use Copy and Recall Treatment (CART) + Repetition in various clinical settings, including acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient rehabilitation, home health, and telehealth. Educate and assist with CART + Repetition exercises within your treatment sessions and/or send them with your patient as part of their home program.
